Jinu Abraham, the executive chef of Heritage Auckland, has been announced the winner of the inaugural New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2012.
Nationwide, chefs and caterers where invited by www.vegetables.co.nz to submit their favourite recipe featuring fresh New Zealand grown vegetables. Jinu entered a vegan dish from his extensive repertoire to win out over 200 other entries.
To celebrate Jinu’s success, Heritage Auckland is holding a vegan winter celebration dinner at 6.30 PM on Saturday 28 July in Hectors restaurant, lobby level of Heritage Auckland at 35 Hobson Street.
Before the dinner is a brief cooking demonstration of the winning dish by Jinu followed by a three course vegan meal for $55 GST inc. per person including a glass of vegan wine.

The Vegetarian Dish Challenge culinary judges decision was unanimous in awarding Jinu Abraham’s entry of baby vegetables with olive, celeriac, candied walnut and macadamia cheese, the winner. The dish will feature on the Hectors restaurant menu this winter.

Jinu Abraham joined the Heritage Auckland in 2003 as demi chef de partie, and has been executive chef since 2008.
