NZ’s Hottest Home Baker 2012

There we were, on the Chelsea NZ Hottest Home Baker TV set in all its green and pink glory…  I can tell you now, this latest installment (the 3rd NZ series screening Thursday nights on TV3) is going to be hotter than hot!

Hosted by consistently-coiffed Colin Mathura-Jeffree, alongside new judge, Dollop’s Julia Crownshaw and Baker Boy Dean Brettschneider, the new HHB series will feature amateur bakers from around NZ competing each week in challenges which will test taste, innovation and presentation.

There was nearly a thousand entries overall. The final eight already winners in their own right. My early money is on the voluptuous wahine Esme from Lower Hutt. Jeepers, you wouldn’t mess with her either. She’s an Inland Revenue Investigator but she loves and knows her kai. She’s got the sponsors on side early too with a passion for the Chocolate Mudcake recipe on Chelsea NZ’s website.

Gorgeous green shoes Rose Nisbet is also one to watch. From Rangiora and a make-up artist by trade, Rose is quick, intelligent, quirky and cool. She is also a vegetarian so we won’t be seeing any bacon and feta scones then?

My third pick to take out the Hottest Home Baker 2012 title is builder Ben or fellow male contestant Hamish Russell. Either of these two boys could sock it to the girls and win. Hamish is from Golden Bay near Nelson and Ben is a bloke’s bloke who happens to bake cakes… Shaped like diggers.

So put on your pinny, wind up your wooden spoon and tart up the Tupperware… because Chelsea Sugar, TV3 and Julie Christie’s powerhouse Eyeworks team bring you the latest in kiwi kitchen coolness. New Zealand’s Hottest Home Baker now back on TV3 Thursday nights. Find out more at
