Crawford Farm wines are a proud supporter of the Mother of the Year competition as famed NZ winemaker Kim Crawford created the Crawford Farm wine range especially for his mum.
Mother’s Day is always a great time for sharing memories.
And because every bottle of Crawford Farm shares a story, it represents the perfect accompaniment to a good old family talk-fest on mum’s special day.
Crawford Farm stories form a fundamental part of the Kim Crawford Wines history; stories of the family farm where the founder grew up.
New Zealand farm life is about enduring hard times and celebrating the good times. It’s about milking the cows, feeding the shearers, charity cake stalls, red school buses, tyre swings, pet horses and Sunday roasts.
And to pay tribute to one fun-loving matriarch who created a generous and nurturing family home, the Crawford Farm range of wines was created. It’s a wine founded in heartland New Zealand and one that celebrates the farming life and the importance of family.
On the back of each bottle of Crawford Farm, a story from the land is shared – with plenty more tales to come. And this Mother’s Day is the perfect time to grab a bottle of Crawford Farm and sit down with mum to share some stories of your own.
Crawford Farm is a proud supporter of the Mother of the Year competition and the NZ Ploughing Championships.
Crawford Farm wines are available at all good supermarkets and liquor outlets for RRP$21.99.
CRAWFORD FARM WINES – TASTING NOTES…
2009 Crawford Farm Sauvignon Blanc
Colour: Straw yellow with pale green hues
Aroma: Fresh punchy Marlborough style Sauvignon Blanc displaying characters of lifted tropical fruits with herbaceous notes
Palate: Zesty combination of capsicum, currant and luscious tropical flavours. A mouth-filling drop with wonderful length and persistence

Grapes for this wine were chosen from vineyard blocks across Marlborough, with a large percentage sourced from the Awatere subregion, resulting in a myriad of flavours that are both powerful and pungent. Minimal leaf plucking was adopted across the board retaining fresh vibrancy in the fruit and ultimately the wine. The wine was fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks to ensure freshness and increase fruit intensity.
2008 Crawford Farm Merlot
Colour: Hues of deep red and purple
Aroma: An intensely fruit forward nose of blackberries and plums
Palate: A soft, rounded palate with well integrated velvety tannins
Food: Match red meat dishes
Cellar: Three to five years
Fruit for the 2008 Crawford Farm Merlot was sourced from the warmer North Island region of Hawke’s Bay, now famous for producing outstanding examples of Bordeaux varietals. This Merlot is no exception. Fruit of optimum ripeness was fermented on skins for 14 days with regular cap mixing to produce a wine rich in colour and flavour. With the added benefit of 100% malolactic fermentation and subtle French Oak (25% barrel maturation) the wine has a soft and satisfying mouth feel with plenty of texture and complexity.
