Shingle Peak Pinot Gris 2010 has scooped the number one spot for the medium dry pinot gris in Cuisine`s highly sought after and much respected star rating.
Renowned for their classic style, Shingle Peak wines consistently deliver luscious and distinctive flavours, and now the Pinot Gris 2010 can add award winning to its many attributes. In addition to the 5 star rating, the wine was also awarded the ‘Best Buy’ accolade – so not only a top tasting wine but affordable as well.
Nikolai St. George, Shingle Peak’s senior winemaker explains that the Pinot Gris variety is starting to enjoy a growth in New Zealand.
“We have noticed a large increase in consumer acceptance towards Pinot Gris over the last four years. This can be attributed to its style of softer acids which allow for an ‘easy to drink’ texture. With this in mind, we are thrilled to be producing wines that consistently perform and win acclaim from inside the industry. Pinot Gris is now the third most popular white wine variety after Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, but this gap is closing; in just two years, it could overtake based on current growth percentages,” says Mr St. George.
Shingle Peak Pinot Gris 2010 is bright straw in colour. The nose is filled with melon, apricot stone fruit aromas to give a lively and vibrant taste. The palate is clean, satisfying and mouth filling with a touch of sweetness on the finish.
It is an ideal food match with everyday summer dishes; our pick is to pair it with scallops and cherry tomatoes roasted in olive oil, lemon juice, basil, coriander and black olives.
The wines were blind tasted by Cuisine’s panel of wine experts led by John Belsham.
Shingle Peak Pinot Gris 2010 is available from leading supermarkets, liquor stores nationwide. RRP $17.99.
