Famous for its 11 secret herbs and spices, KFC is now offering customers even more great tasting chicken with the launch of a new range of grilled chicken.

Oven cooked, the new KFC Grilled range is marinated for tenderness and taste before being grilled to perfection in state-of-the-art new ovens.

After several years in development and a $2.5 million investment in new ovens for every KFC store, the new range will become a permanent fixture on the KFC menu.

Launching nationwide on Tuesday 5 April, KFC offered Kiwis a free taste of its new grilled chicken by giving away 15,000 pieces at 10 stores around the country.

Grilled options include Grilled Buffalo Wings, a Quarter Chicken, Chicken Burger, Fiery BLT Chicken Burger, Chicken Wrap, Fiery Chicken Wrap and Chicken Salad. Prices for the new menu items start at $4.90 for a Quarter Chicken.

With fewer calories and less fat*, KFC Grilled is part of a wider focus on nutrition and choice for the company, said KFC NZ’s General Manager Brent Kitto.

“We are committed to offering our customers healthier choices where we can. The key for KFC is to do so without sacrificing the taste our customers know and love.“

Over the past year, KFC has worked hard to achieve a 10% reduction in salt across its menu. From early May it will also change to a healthier canola-sunflower blend oil, said Mr Kitto.

*A KFC Grilled Quarter Chicken contains approximately 194 calories and 9.8 grams fat per 100 grams, compared to 264 calories and 17.2 grams fat per 100 grams in KFC’s Original Recipe Chicken.
