‘The Just Cook Kitchen chefs will all be using ingredients from the Food Week Pantry List as well as a few extras you can easily pick up on the way home,’ says NZNF Dietitian, Sarah Hanrahan. “Our Just Cook Kitchen chefs are all here to show how easy cooking at home can be – and how using a few economical ingredients can make cooking at home really affordable and interesting.”

‘Just Cook’ is the theme behind the inaugural Food Week which aims to build confidence in the kitchen and teach Kiwis that cooking at home using seasonal produce and basic ingredients can be affordable and delicious.

Hanrahan believes that the biggest barriers to meal preparation are time, money and knowledge and hopes that Food Week will go some way in breaking these barriers down.

“Kiwis can afford to eat properly at home if they know how,” she adds. “We hope Food Week will inspire more Kiwis to try new recipes, teach them how to make their dollars go further and encourage families to cook more often at home.”

To get the message out, Food Week has developed The Interactive Kitchen, a Facebook app designed to assist New Zealanders find the perfect recipes to match their household ingredients. The Interactive Kitchen app allows users to select key ingredients from the Just Cook Food List which then suggests tasty recipes based on their selections. All recipes from the Just Cook Kitchen Chefs will be available on the Just Cook Facebook page.
