Talk show host and comedian, Ellen DeGeneres, has launched a vegan orientated website aimed at helping people who want to stop eating meat and animal products.
The ‘Going Vegan with Ellen’ site provides recipes, tips, information on how to start becoming vegan, FAQs, reasons for adopting such a diet, and book and movie suggestions.
Ellen has long encouraged the diet on her show, with cooking segments on her show, since she went vegan in 2008.
The reason behind her choice, which her partner Portia de Rossi also follows, has been given as primarily ethical in the past, with the comedian known for donating to animal shelters and rescuing stray kittens.
“You ask people why they have deer heads on the wall. They always say, ‘because it’s such a beautiful animal’,” the comedian once joked.
“There you go. I think my mother’s attractive, but I have photographs of her.”
However, her choices in veganism have been critiqued in the past, particularly in regards to Ellen’s ongoing sponsorship by cosmetics company, Cover Girl, who engage in animal testing.
