This steak sandwich recipe is one of my top three go-to recipes when we’re starving but want to eat healthy! This is juicy and finger-dripping good. Use your favourite bread whether it’s a Rosemary & Rye sourdough, fresh white bun, a french stick or ciabatta or just your favourite sandwich bread. Serves 2.

To make the Best Steak Sandwich, you will need:

2 small pieces sirloin steak

1 tablespoon rice bran oil

Freshly ground black pepper

Freshly ground rock salt

1 tablespoon mustard

2 cloves garlic, crushed

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

4 slices of your favourite bread (we love Tip Top Hi-Protein)

Handful fresh lettuce (we love fancy curly or rocket)

2 tomatoes, sliced

Yellow capsicum (ideally marinated or roasted)

How to make the best steak sandwich: Rub the steak with oil and pepper. Cook on a heated barbecue plate, or in a fry pan, to medium rare (about four minutes each side). Transfer to a plate and season with plenty of salt. Let the steaks rest and cool. Don’t slice quite yet. Mix mustard and garlic into mayonnaise. Lightly grill or toast the bread and spread with mayonnaise mix. Slice steak and rest it for a minute to let excess juices run off. Assemble sandwich with rocket leaves, tomatoes, capsicum, onion and gherkins then add the sliced steak and season. Add a little extra mayonnaise if desired. Put on the top slice of bread, gently press down, then slice in half. Serve immediately.’

Tips: Go for gold with all things filling. Add sliced red onion even gherkins.
