The latest substitute for butter or margarine has been released in Australia with plans to spread ‘Avo’ into New Zealand.

Avo is an avocado oil spread made with 20 per cent all natural avocado oil.

MD of Avo Pty Ltd, Tammy Fenner, said her inspiration for Avo was created as an extension from the success of an existing business.

“We have a skin care brand called ‘Avado’ – a beautiful product range based on certified organic avocado oils. Due to the desirable health benefits of this oil I decided to look into how we could use it everyday and came up with the idea of an alternative healthy food spread.”

Avo is cholesterol free; comprises less than one per cent trans fats and is proven to be considerably lower in saturated fats and sodium compared to the existing food spreads in the market. It is naturally rich in vitamins A and D and has received the red tick approval by the National Heart Foundation.

Avo is designed for daily consumption, can be spread onto bread or toast as well as used in cooking.

The product is stocked in Australia only currently, at Woolworths and Safeway stores, and retails at A$4.99 for a 375g tub.
