The only hand-cooked crisps in Australasia, Proper Crisps are delicious New Zealand-made potato chips created using only the finest potatoes from the fertile soil of South Canterbury.
Proper Crisps are cooked in small batches in high-oleic, cholesterol-free sunflower oil, a variety renowned for its superior quality and taste, as well as its environmental benefits – the used sunflower oil is converted into biodiesel, most recently used to power their van from sunny Nelson up to the Auckland Food Show.
The idea of Proper Crisps came to head fryer Stuart Franklin after he realised that NZ produces some of the best potatoes in the world. Using a fifth-hand old-fashioned crisp kettle from the USA and fully armed with the knowledge of how to use it to make great crisps, Stuart and his team went to work. The results: utterly delicious crispy morsels with nothing more than sunflower oil and Marlborough sea salt from the salt beds of Lake Grasmere, with no artificial flavourings or preservatives.
Proper Crisps were a winner at the Cuisine 2010 Artisan of the Year Awards. They are available at all Nosh Food Markets, RRP $4.99 for a 150gm packet.
