Tea-drinking in Korea focuses not only on the taste sensations but incorporates an accompanying appreciation of the purification of the mind, spirit and body.

Although Korean Tea Culture goes back to ancient times, it suffered almost 50 years of regression under the Japanese and during the Korean War.

In the 1970’s a regeneration of interest started. Tea masters started lecturing, publishing books and conducting classes on Dado (the Korean Way of Tea), increasing the population of tea devotees. The rise in popularity of tea-drinking led to the development of large industrial tea plantations in the provinces of Boseong, Haenam, Hwagye, Yeongam and Jeju Island. Both small and large tea manufacturers actively produce tea in these provinces.

Hadong is recognised as the best tea growing region of South Korea.  The entire production is done by hand with meticulous care, demanding a sensitive touch and correct timing. Freshly harvested young shoots are gently fired in great iron cauldrons heated by wood-fuelled fires, adding to each vintage’s unique hue, fragrance and flavor. It is much sweeter in taste than Japanese or Chinese green tea.
