The Perfect Steak

How do you like yours? Just pink in the middle? So rare it’s blue? Or perhaps you like yours a little more cooked. However you like yours, there’s a method to getting it right every time – and it’s simple.

The Perfect Steak

  • 4 pieces of Eye Fillet or Sirloin steak, 3cm thick (approx. 200-250g per person)
  • 1 tablespoon rice bran oil
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Ground black pepper

Bring steaks out of the fridge at least an hour before you want to use them. A good steak is always cooked at room temperature.

Preheat grill or BBQ to high (approx. 200-220°). Dress steaks with oil, salt and pepper and rub in well. Place on heat – remember the golden rule and only turn your steak once!

For rare steaks, cook 4 minutes one side, turn and cook 3 minutes on the other.

For medium steaks, cook 5-6 minutes one side, turn and cook 4 minutes on the other.

For well-done steaks, cook 6-8 minutess one side, turn and cook 4 minutes on the other.

Remove from heat and rest steaks for at least 5 minutes before serving.
