Farro’s newest store opened today, 22 February at 9am in the Orakei Bay Village retail development, in a fully restored warehouse space a former gin distillery, adjacent to the Orakei Train Station.

This is the fifth Farro store to open in Auckland and the site was in fact the original location Janene and James Draper intended as the site Farro wanted to open their first store in 10 years ago. A decade and four other Farro stores later, the development plans have come to fruition.

The Orakei store is perched high above Hobson Bay and is a fantastic central hub right in the centre of Orakei, Mission Bay, Meadowbank, St Johns and just down from the northern slopes of Remuera.

“We are so excited to be opening our new Orakei store in such a fantastic location,” says Janene. “We hope Farro Orakei will quickly become a neighbourhood favourite- a place to stop for a coffee and to pick up Farro delights for all ages or as a stop for those commuters on their way home around the bays or stepping off the train to head home with a bag full or deliciousness.”

“We have a made a few very subtle changes to the layout of the store, which features more customer facing spaces, based on what we’ve learned from our other locations. But in essence all the familiar features of our stores are there, and we offer that unique Farro experience and the extensive range of fresh, high quality, local products to local food lovers.”

High-pitched ceilings and natural light bring a charm and character to the space which incorporates all of the Farro favourites including fresh produce; the deli with its extensive range of specialty breads, freshly cut cheeses and charcuterie; the service butchery selling only NZ-raised free-range meat; and grocery department where you can discover an array local artisan and international products.

“As we grow as a business we’re really proud that our family of small artisan producers are able to grow with us,” says Janene. Farro actively encourages and assists New Zealand artisans into the market and onto its shelves, and the passion and drive of these producers is the cornerstone of what make Farro unique.

Farro Orakei welcomes a new Farro team with some very familiar faces moving over to join store manager Freddie Hassan, whose smiling face many will recognise from Farro Lunn Ave where he’s worked for the past 6 years.

“Our staff are the most important part of the Farro experience, they are passionate about food and the growth of Farro and have all helped to mold who we are today,” says Janene.

Aucklanders James and Janene Draper founded Farro in 2006, out of a desire to create a retail space that showcased the very best of New Zealand food. They started out in Lunn Ave with just 12 staff and have slowly grown over the past 10 years, to become a hub for food lovers across Auckland. James and Janene are still very much involved in the business, which now employs 450 staff across 5 stores. They have also recently launched a full online shopping service for over 1500 of the fresh and grocery products, delivery around Auckland.
