Ever wanted to take your tastebuds on a refreshing journey of discovery? Now you can with Mac’s debut honey mead, Love Buzz, available on limited release.

Kamahi, Clover and Manuka honey sing together in pure nirvana to create a subtly sweet, sparkling, golden-coloured mead.

Mead is the oldest alcoholic drink known to man – yes, long before wine and beer, there was mead – and is made by fermenting honey with water.

Love Buzz is 5.5% ABV, gluten free and is all about the honey.

Kurt Gross, brewer and Lion Beer Ambassador says: “It’s great to see mead making a comeback as more people want to experiment with new flavors and ingredients.”

The Kamahi honey has a very intense, complex, floral-like aroma and flavour. By combining that with the more mild, sweet flavoured Clover, gives Love Buzz just the right levels of each to allow their individual characters to shine through. After a long fermentation using a white wine yeast, a touch of Manuka honey is added to enhance the sweetness and flavour. The end result is a light and very refreshing mead.

“Honey definitely plays the starring role in Love Buzz. However, the biggest misconception about mead is, because it’s made from honey, it has to be overly sweet, but that’s not the case. Mead can vary in sweetness from sweet, semi-sweet, to dry. Love Buzz has a slight sweetness upfront, with a classic dry finish. It’s also completely gluten free, something that we’re really excited about.”

Mac’s Love Buzz is available now in 4 packs for five months only, RRP $14.99.

It is also released on tap in Mac’s Brew Bars for the same limited release period. www.macs.co.nz

  1. This is horrifically sweet. I get what they were going for but the “subtly sweet… refreshing” description is totally off. I reckon it’s sweeter than drinking sprite and awfully cloying. Not refreshing at all just sugar.
