One of New Zealand’s favourite cooks and best-selling cookbook authors, Chelsea Winter is back in 2018 to help you make every day delicious. Chelsea has just released her fifth cook book, aptly named ‘Eat’. Her recipes stick to a beautiful structure of being simple, no fancy stuff, complicated instructions or hard-to-find ingredients!
Chelsea is going to be doing live cooking demonstrations at The Food Show in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland this year. Visitors will get a chance to see Chelsea live in action and pick up some of her best cooking tips. Tickets to The Food Show are available from www.foodshow.co.nz.

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten in the last week?
The salmon quiche from Eat – yep, I cook from my own books and I’m proud of it!
What was breakfast this morning?
Toast with avocado, tomato, lemon juice, olive oil, hummus, salt and pepper.
What are you looking forward to about being at The Food Shows?
It’s always a real thrill being up there on stage cooking in front of a live audience. I love being able to share my love of cooking, offer a few tips and have a few laughs. Then of course exploring all the deliciousness the exhibitors have to offer is pretty special. And most of all, I love meeting my fans – it’s the best.
What will you be doing there?
I’ll be cooking a delicious meal that kinda looks fancy, so you could serve it for dinner guests (or for Mum on Mother’s day) – but actually it’s really easy and really quick! Which it kind of has to be, because I only have 40 minutes to whip up three things. It’s always a race against the clock because I talk so much, but after so many years doing The Food Show, I’m getting pretty good at it.
What is something about you that people might not expect?
I don’t go out for dinner very often – I’m a bit of a homebody, and I just enjoy mucking around in the kitchen in my sloppy home clothes.
If you’re home alone and need to make dinner, what do you cook for yourself?
Depends what I feel like! Might be cheese on toast, might be spaghetti alfredo, might be leftovers from the fridge! I’m not fussy…
What are your top five ingredients to cook with?
I really don’t know if I could choose. Probably gonna have to be boring and say salt, pepper, olive oil, butter, lemon, chilli. That’s six – oh well.
What advice would you give to someone lacking confidence in the kitchen?
Don’t be disheartened. No one was born a good cook, it’s just practice. But always use recipes from a cook you trust – googling random recipes can have disastrous results.
What’s your go to dinner when you don’t know what to cook?
Lightning chicken! Probably the most popular recipe in Eat.
Do you predict any major food trends for 2018?
I stay away from food trends. The way I see it, good food is always in fashion.
