Jing Song, the New Zealand’s youngest wine entrepreneur and the co-founder of Crown Range Cellar, has been working on to create a unique wine experience with the sound and multisensory artist Jo Burzynska.

Jo has been heavily involved with Oxford University research to understand the fascinating transformations that occur when wine and sound combine. Jing has partnered with Jo to create a unique experience based on the science of sensory interaction. When you taste a wine while listening to a different form of music (rock, dubstep, classical) the taste you experience is very different.

The experience is a first in New Zealand and will be available at Crown Range Cellar wine and art lounge in Parnell from May.

Jing is also working on other Ai experiences around the impacts sound has on your taste buds and wants to educate Kiwi’s to explore their senses further.

Jing became the first New Zealand woman to win a trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London for the Crown Range 2013 Signature Selection Pinot Noir. At 32, she is the youngest female wine entrepreneur in NZ.

Born in China, Jing came to New Zealand when she was 10 years old. Jing’s mother is a well-known Chinese broadcaster and lived in China while she was in New Zealand.  She grew up in Canterbury and Central Otago among the vines, where she developed an immense appreciation for wine and fascination for winemaking – though her studies took her on a very different route.

Jing received a scholarship from KPMG and originally trained as a Chartered Accountant, something that has given her a great grounding in business operations. Working around her accountancy training, Jing also took a degree in art and theatre.

Her passion for design, literature and wine is expressed through the art of winemaking and she feels strongly about providing a different wine tasting experience to New Zealanders. This desire sparked the idea for the Art and Wine Lounge, which Jing established with her Crown Range Cellar business partner and winemaker Grant Taylor.
