Green might be the colour most readily associated with Countdown, but today, you can expect to be greeted by a sea of pink when you visit one of our stores.
Friday 18th May is Pink Shirt Day, an international awareness day started in 2009 that aims to promote conversations about diversity and inclusion
In New Zealand, Pink Shirt Day is working towards creating schools, workplaces and communities where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
Countdown’s General Manager Culture & People Lauren Voyce says team members in Countdown stores all over New Zealand are getting right behind the cause, wearing Pink Shirts and stickers for the occasion.
“At Countdown everyone counts, and one of our values is to do the right thing. It’s why we’ve introduced policies around family violence and transgender transitioning, and supporting Pink Shirt Day is another natural expression of our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” says Voyce.
As well as team throughout our 182 stores around the country wearing pink shirts for the occasion, teams are encouraged to hold a ‘Diversitea” Party to get to know other team members.
