No. 7 Balmac will take their fresh flavours down to the Octagon for a three month pop up, while they revamp the restaurant following a fire two weeks ago.

No. 7 Balmac owner, Katrina Toovey says that despite the shock of recent events, the pop up is an exciting new opportunity to bring the No. 7 Balmac neighbourhood bistro vibe to the heart of the Dunedin city.

“We’ve picked the favourites from our menu and will present a well-considered selection of ten items which reflect the essence diners know and love about No. 7 Balmac. We’re looking forward to opening from noon to late as we serve our community who have been super supportive not only over this difficult time, but over the last nine years.”

In its temporary locale, No. 7 Balmac will continue to operate as it always does – with a zero waste ethos, serving vegetables grown in its kitchen garden alongside premium ingredients sourced from local suppliers. It will complement this by serving only organic and biodynamic wines while in the Octagon. All vegetable waste from No. 7 in the Octagon will be returned to the restaurant in Balmacewen Road for composting, before later finding its way into the kitchen garden.

Following the fire on Saturday 18 August, the restaurant at No. 7 Balmacewen Road will be closed for three months as they restore and refresh the space. Katrina says it’s wonderful to have use of a venue that allows the restaurant team to continue to work through the disruption. Following a huge show of support from No.7 Balmac customers and friends, she’s excited to bring special events like the winemaker’s dinner down to the No.7 Balmac Octagon pop up.

The Regent Theatre Director, Sarah Anderson said,
“We’re delighted The Regent Theatre could support the team at No. 7 Balmac by providing somewhere for them to operate from while the restaurant is renovated. It’s a complementary relationship,  theatre goers share a love of great food, art and culture with the customers of No. 7 Balmac. We’re delighted that for the next three months those attending shows at The Regent have another option for pre and post show refreshment.”

No. 7 Balmac in the Octagon opens from Thursday 6 September 2018 at noon. It will be open from noon until late Wednesday through Sunday until December.
