In Westpac Auckland Awards’ first ever People’s Choice category, little Kiwi start up making waves around New Zealand, Wahiki took the win…decisively.

The closest competition was beloved Kiwi burger brand Better Burger as revealed on the night, but Wahiki won by 1,200 votes ahead… a clear victory. 16,000 votes were cast in total for the four finalists.

“We had a fantastic night. Winning the People’s Choice Award for Wahiki and being finalists in the Marketing and Best Emerging Business categories for a business that is less than two years old and only our first ever entry into the awards, heralds greater things to come,” says Haman Shahpari, Wahiki’s chief executive.

“To win against three other finalists, with more than a thousand votes than the closest competition, demonstrates we are absolutely on the right track on our way to changing the game in our field. We took painstaking measures to research the market we are in and understand what our consumers want.

“And it was clear: they want the same deliciousness and decadence of ice cream, but one that is better for you. We listened and created New Zealand’s tastiest, healthiest and densest vegan, dairy free ice cream, and also the first and only to be certified gluten free,” Shahpari says.

Wahiki’s ethos is to enjoy a guilt free time out (Wahiki means time-out in Maori) and Shahpari says that is exactly what the company has delivered.

“No other ice cream brand in New Zealand can claim to be as tasty and textured as us, with less sugar and calories. We’ve created the ice cream of your dreams, all the taste, none of the guilt,” he adds.

Wahiki ice cream offers the world’s first coconut turmeric latte flavour and made with premium coconut milk, it includes four flavours, with the following new sugar content:

Chocolate: 8.8g (just reduced)
Mango: 7.4g (just reduced)
Vanilla: 7.5g
Turmeric Latte: 9.5g (world first flavor!)

“We pump less air into our ice creams to make it fluffy, which is why it melts later than normal ice cream and is heavier. Every tub gets you more ice cream the than other brands and goodness you couldn’t dream up,” Shahpari adds.
