Gillette has joined New Zealand Cricket as an Official Partner for the 2018/2019 season that will see the shaving brand take on the role of ‘grooming partner’ for the New Zealand BLACKCAPS, official partner of the domestic Burger King Super Smash series and official National Secondary Schools partner (Gillette Cup and Gillette Venus Cup).
New Zealand Cricket GM of Commercial James Wear said he is looking forward to a great partnership with Gillette coming on board for the summer season of cricket.
“Gillette is a well-known brand with close associations to leading sports around the world including cricket. We’ve got a big season ahead, so it’s an exciting time to be involved with the Burger King Super Smash and the BLACKCAPS,” he said.
Cricket enthusiasts, players and fans will see the Gillette brand feature prominently on Burger King Super Smash uniforms and in stadia at New Zealand based games. The partnership will also extend beyond the stadium and visible on-field presence, with Gillette promotions running across New Zealand supporting New Zealand Cricket throughout the season.
“Cricket is part of Gillette’s DNA so we’re thrilled to be associated with New Zealand Cricket and hope we will help give the BLACKCAPS the cutting edge. We look forward to taking in all the action as a proud official partner of New Zealand Cricket. Gillette has a rich sport heritage and long-standing commitment to cricket around the world, so it is a natural fit to support the New Zealand team and the sport in this country,” Rajeev Sathyesh, Gillette Brand Director APAC, said.
“We’re also passionate about helping to grow and develop cricket at a local level including continuing to support the National Secondary Schools tournaments. We wish the BLACKCAPS and Burger King Super Smash teams every success this season and look forward to working with them to support the development of the game all around New Zealand.”
Cricket is the number one summer sport in New Zealand, with 1.5 million New Zealanders identifying themselves as fans or fanatics of cricket in New Zealand.
The BLACKCAPS’ first New Zealand based test match will be on 15th December in Wellington with the final match starting on 16th March in Christchurch.
The Burger King Super Smash is the T20 domestic cricket competition running from 22nd December 2018 to 17th February 2019 with 32 matches held between the six teams; Knights, Wellington Firebirds, Otago Volts, Canterbury Kings, Auckland Aces and Central Stags.
