Nespresso has collaborated with culinary genius Giapo to create a bespoke gelato Shakerato, available this weekend only – Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 February – at Giapo’s Gore Street store. Coffee-loving customers will receive a complimentary Nespresso iced coffee with every purchase of the Shakerato gelato.

Providing Aucklanders a delicious respite to the Kiwi heatwave, the limited edition creation is in celebration of the launch of Nespresso’s new iced coffee range that features two Italian-inspired coffees, Ispirazione Shakerato and Ispirazione Salentina.

Designed exclusively for Nespresso by Italian chef Giapo, the Shakerato gelato is crafted with the new Nespresso Over Ice Ispirazione Shakerato coffee and Christchurch hazelnut milk.

What’s more, with every purchase of the Shakerato gelato, customers can choose from one of two complimentary ice coffee creations, also crafted by Giapo;

Ispirazione Shakerato
The cocoa aromas and long-lasting roasted notes of this intense and full-bodied Nespresso Over Ice coffee combines perfectly with hazelnut butter and dulche de leche for a creamy and sweet serve.

Ispirazione Salentina
The addition of maple syrup and liquorice complement the smooth and round texture of this Nespresso Over Ice coffee, revealing nutty aromas and a sweet but slightly bitter taste.

Over the years, the innovative team at Giapo have served us outlandish goods such as a Colossal Squid ice cream, Roti wraps and wearable ice cream. If that’s anything to go by, the iced coffee serves are sure to excite.

The Nespresso Shakerato gelato is priced at $10.50 and available to purchase from Giapo on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February only. Opening hours: 12.30pm – 10.30pm.

The first 150 customers to purchase the Nespresso gelato (cone, tub, Selfie cone or Wearable ice-cream cones) each day will receive one complimentary Nespresso Over Ice coffee; either Ispirazione Shakerato or Ispirazione Salentina.

Make your own Giapo x Nespresso Iced Coffee creation at home
If you’re not able to visit Giapo this weekend, you can make his Nespresso Over Ice serves at home with these easy recipes designed exclusively for Nespresso.

ISPIRAZIONE SHAKERATO

1 espresso shot of Nespresso Ispirazione Shakerato
25g of Hazelnut butter
30g of Dulce De Leche
60ml of cream (we like Lewis Road Creamery)
A handful of ice cubes

  1. Fill a large wine glass halfway with ice and water and set aside to chill while you make the Shakerato.
  2. In the base of a cocktail shaker, mix together the coffee, hazelnut butter and dulce de leche. Fill the shaker with ice, close, and shake until shaker is frosted and mixture has created a sort of espresso foam, about 20 seconds.
  3. Add in the cream, ice cubes and serve.

ISPIRAZIONE SALENTINA
1 espresso shot of Nespresso Ispirazione Salentina
Liquorice extract 2.5g
70ml of cream (we like Lewis Road Creamery)
1 tablespoon of maple syrup
Handful of ice

  1. Fill a large wine glass halfway with ice and water and set aside to chill while you make the Salentina.
  2. In the base of a cocktail shaker, mix together the coffee, liquorice extract and maple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice, close, and shake until shaker is frosted and mixture has created a sort of espresso foam, about 20 seconds.
  3. Add in the cream, ice cubes and serve.
