Off the back of a sweltering summer filled with beach days, backyard cricket and BBQ nights, Kiwis across Aotearoa can relish in the new tradition rounding out our summer for a second year – Best Foods National BBQ Day.

Last years’ Best Foods National BBQ Day was a nationwide hit that saw the country collectively farewell summer in true Kiwi fashion. Much-loved mayonnaise makers, Best Foods, has decided to bring the national celebration back on 24th February 2019 across Aotearoa.

Best Foods have also teamed up with an array of recipe masterminds across Aotearoa including BBQ geniuses fire & thyme, food stylist and chef Fiona Hugues, and celebrity chefs and former My Kitchen Rules contestants, Jay Wanakore and Sarah Chase. Each recipe has been creatively developed with BBQ day in mind to make it the hottest day of the year. Keep an eye out on the Best Foods website for their recipes.

So, what do New Zealanders need to do to celebrate Best Foods National BBQ Day? It’s simple. The team at Best Foods believe National BBQ Day is best enjoyed with a group of great mates, some delicious food, a few cold bevvies, the ultimate homegrown music playlist and of course, a side of New Zealand’s favourite mayo – Best Foods mayonnaise. All Kiwis need to do is get their mates together, chuck on their favourite pair of jandals, head out in the sun and fire up the barbie on Sunday 24th February 2018.

If you don’t have a BBQ of your own, don’t panic; Best Foods will bring the BBQ to you. Aucklanders can head to Fairburn Reserve beside Otahuhu Pool & Leisure Centre from 12pm until 4pm on Best Foods National BBQ Day, Sunday 24th February, and celebrate the day in true Kiwi fashion – with some family games, summer sun and a free sausage sizzle. Mai FM will also be running free sausage sizzles in four other locations throughout the country from 12 until 3pm on the 24th – Innes Common Carpark in Hamilton; Memorial Park, Tauranga; Outlet City in Tawa, Wellington; and Scarborough Park, Sumner Beach, Christchurch.

The new national tradition, Best Foods National BBQ Day, is set to continue for years to come. Each year as sizzling heat begins to fade, Kiwis can gather round with mates for a BBQ to say ‘see ya soon’ to our Kiwi summer the very best way we know how. The official holiday for the humble BBQ will land on the last Sunday of February, before Autumn officially begins.
