Popular Ponsonby restaurant Sidart has launched a new Friday lunch menu and the end of week luncheon has never looked so appealing.
What was previously a set five course tasting menu has changed to cater to smaller and larger appetites, with four, five and six course options now available.
Chef Sid Sahrawat has recently returned from three weeks in India, and inspired by his travels has added new dishes to the popular Progressive Indian menu menu including:
Scampi Chaat, Yogurt, Kaffir Lime, Tamarind – Scampi chaat- scampi cooked on charcoal, potato crisps, kaffir lime emulsion, coriander relish, tamarind ice and pomegranate. Chaat comes from north India it’s a name for a category of dishes that mix sweet sour salty and flavours together. Jaggery, Beetroot, Coffee, Raspberry Jaggery (cane syrup) ice cream with beetroot cooked in coffeee and vanilla, macerated beetroot meringue and caramelised white chocolate. The dish is inspired by the numerous sugar cane fields in the Maharashtra region in India.
The new dishes have been influenced by chef Sahrawat’s time in New Delhi, Mumbai and home town Chandigarth and showcase Indian cuisine in an elevated and precise degustation format that marries India’s cuisine, spices and flavours with the best of New Zealand produce.
Chef Sid says it was great to be reminded of regional cuisines and forgotten traditional flavours:
“I stumbled across intriguing ingredients that are actually grown in India like morel mushrooms and sea buckthorn. I am excited to work with some new influences and translate them on to the plate – watch this space.”
A four-course tasting menu is available for $60 per person, five courses $75 and six courses $90. The canapés are optional at an additional $30 for four canapés per person.
Evening dining options include the five course Discovery Menu for $110 per person and Full Discovery Menu is priced at $160 per person. Wine matches are also available.
