Telling the tale of a tireless pursuit of perfection, The Last Shepherd introduces a full-bodied Hawke’s Bay Syrah to its range of super-premium wines.
With pioneering spirit and a dedication to the craft of winemaking, The Last Shepherd takes the best from each region to produce wine of exceptional quality, from its Central Otago Pinot Noir and Gisborne Chardonnay to the new release Hawke’s Bay Syrah.
The Last Shepherd Syrah celebrates the sunny Hawke’s Bay region – its stony soils in the south western corner of the Heretaunga plains providing richly flavoured fruit paired with a timeless history.
Hand crafted from the finest Syrah grapes, this aromatic wine reveals flavours of boysenberry and plum with well-integrated oak influence. With a medium weight on the palate, it has a hint of pepper and warm spices, rounded out with a soft and velvety finish.
Jessica Bell, Pernod Ricard Wine Brand Ambassador says the Hawke’s Bay region is increasingly gaining recognition and praise for the exceptional quality of its Syrah.
“Being the oldest wine region in New Zealand, Hawke’s Bay has a deep-rooted history in producing distinctive, complex and aromatic wines of excellent quality and The Last Shepherd Syrah is a fine example of this.
“This aromatic, full-bodied wine reflects the skill and craftmanship handed down through generations of winemakers,” she says.
Much like the Hawke’s Bay Syrah, each varietal of The Last Shepherd tells a story as unique as the wine itself.
The Chardonnay celebrates the rugged beauty and eternal history of the Gisborne landscape, while the Pinot Noir pays homage to the original Central Otago shepherds that worked on New Zealand’s largest high-country sheep stations, creating a wine with the same passion and dedication as those men who tended their flocks.
The Last Shepherd Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2017 is drinking well now, or cellar for at least five years from vintage to develop a further savoury and earthy complexity.
Perfect for entertaining at home during the autumnal months, its delicate flavours pair wonderfully with grilled meats and vegetables, particularly lamb and eggplant.
The Last Shepherd Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2017 is available in New Zealand from June 3 at all leading liquor retailers RRP $22.99.
