Fun and fruity pineapple, banana, and paw paw grower Dole is encouraging Kiwis to spread the sunshine, take care of themselves and others, and embrace the winter season to celebrate this year’s International Pineapple Day – taking place on Thursday 27th June 2019.
Despite it being the middle of winter down south, there’s no reason to feel blue this chilly season. Dole wants Kiwis to create their own tropical vibes and spread the sunshine through performing random acts of kindness for themselves and others – it could be as simple as paying a compliment or buying a bunch of flowers for someone who deserves a pick-me-up.
Other easy ways Dole recommends boosting happiness on International Pineapple Day – and all winter – include trying a new type of exercise, such as yoga or dancing; spending time with family and friends; taking up a new hobby; exploring somewhere new on a mini getaway; or trying a yummy new pineapple recipe.
Pineapples are a fantastic source of vitamin C and fibre, making them great for aiding digestion, and contain high levels of manganese, a mineral essential for bone strength, growth and repair – ideal for winter wellness.
As well as being a delicious and healthy tropical treat, pineapples are also a sustainable snacking choice. Dole’s Tropical Gold Pineapples bear the Rainforest Alliance certification seal, which is awarded to farms, forests, and businesses that meet rigorous environmental and social standards.
Dole New Zealand General Manager Steve Barton says, “Winter can seem dreary and many people want to escape to a more tropical destination during these months. We’re hoping to bring some fun and sunshine to the month of June with our pineapples and lots of winter wellness tips, even if you don’t have a tropical holiday planned!”
Dole will be activating its Pinabars in select New World supermarkets on International Pineapple Day; giving out a complimentary Dole Tropical Gold Pineapples, Dole reusable shopping bag, and a copy of Dole’s Sunshine Newspaper – available exclusively on the 27th June – to customers who purchase a Dole Tropical Gold Pineapple.
As part of the day’s celebrations, Dole has teamed up with boutique bakery Bluebells Cakery to create a limited-edition pineapple cupcake, available for two weeks only from Tuesday 17th June until Tuesday 1 July.
The mouth-watering pineapple cupcakes with fresh ginger and cinnamon will be available in Bluebells Cakery Kingsland and Hillsborough stores, as well as online and via the Uber Eats app. It’s the easiest way to spread the sunshine this Pineapple Day – order a sweet treat for a work mate, mum, dad, friend or grandparents, or for yourself!
Other winter-warming pineapple recipe ideas include Dole’s Pineapple & Lemongrass Kombucha, filled with gut-friendly probiotics; Pineapple Satay Chicken Nibbles with Pineapple Salsa; and a decadent Pineapple & Lime Crème Brulee.
Dole has also partnered with nutritionist Chloe Moir, who has shared her top winter wellness tips. An expert in balanced health, including mental wellness, fitness and diet, Chloe is an expert when it comes to spreading the sunshine through healthy habits and making small lifestyle changes.
