The best shuck in town! Reeling in some of the area’s finest purveyors for a grand celebration of ‘vitamin sea’, Oyster Festival Matakana is marking its third year of a shucking great day out on Sunday 6 October.
Kicking off the Mahurangi Harbour season – the birthplace of oyster farming in New Zealand – the movers and shuckers behind the slippery delicacies will be face to face with foodies for a day of fanatical feasting, with the first of the Mahurangi season offering up a plump, creamy and less salty taste than that of other varietals.
Paired with an exquisite line-up of local wines and produce, this all-weather event will entertain the whole family with live music, a foodie demonstration tent, kids entertainment and of course, shucking competitions.
And for those that aren’t partial to the slippery little bivalves there’s plenty of other tasty delicacies on offer with everyone from Sawmill Brewery to Double Dutch Fries joining in the fun!
Whether you’re a profesh or simply ‘pro-fresh’, this kid-friendly event will bring feasters face to face with the best shuckers behind the decadent delicacies. With food and entertainment options for tots to fullfledged foodies, it’s a no brainer way to spend a spring Sunday.
Give in to the allure of these plump, creamy stars and indulge in a day of fun and feasts – shuck it!
