Moist Dark Chocolate Orange Cake
Those of us who love chocolate cake know what a spectacular cake should taste like: chocolatey, sweet and—above all— moist. Here's a fool-proof recipe so you can create the perfect cake.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 1 ¼ cups sugar
- ½ cup cocoa
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp softened butter
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 1 large orange zest and juice
Chocolate frosting
- 1 tsp softened butter
- 1 tbsp cocoa
- 1 ¼ cups icing sugar
- 1 orange zest and juice
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- Line 20cm round cake tin with foil or baking paper.
- Place all the cake ingredients in a large bowl.
- Stir well to combine.
- Mix with electric beaters until creamy.
- Bake approximately one hour, or until the skewer comes out clean.
- Remove from oven and cool completely.
- Place all frosting ingredients in a bowl (except orange juice). Add the orange juice by tablespoon until you reach the desired consistency.
- Ice the cake once it has cooled. You can ice the centre also by slicing it through the middle.
