Moist Dark Chocolate Orange Cake

Those of us who love chocolate cake know what a spectacular cake should taste like: chocolatey, sweet and—above all— moist. Here's a fool-proof recipe so you can create the perfect cake.

Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1 large orange zest and juice

Chocolate frosting

  • 1 tsp softened butter
  • 1 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 ¼ cups icing sugar
  • 1 orange zest and juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 180°C.
  • Line 20cm round cake tin with foil or baking paper.
  • Place all the cake ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Stir well to combine.
  • Mix with electric beaters until creamy.
  • Bake approximately one hour, or until the skewer comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven and cool completely.
  • Place all frosting ingredients in a bowl (except orange juice). Add the orange juice by tablespoon until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Ice the cake once it has cooled. You can ice the centre also by slicing it through the middle.
