Fried green tomatoes
Not just a brilliant chick-flick from 1991, Fried Green Tomatoes are also a delicious breakfast dish. If your tomatoes have come to end, collect up the green ones and give this recipe a whirl.
Ingredients
- 3 firm green tomatoes med- large size
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- â…” cup fine dry bread crumbs
- olive oil
Instructions
- Cut unpeeled tomatoes into 1.5 cm slices.
- Sprinkle slices with salt and pepper and stand for approximately 10 mins.
- Place flour, milk, eggs, and bread crumbs in separate shallow dishes.
- Heat a small amount of olive oil in a frying pan to a medium heat.
- Dip tomato slices in milk, then flour, then eggs, then bread crumbs and then fry for 5 mins on each side or until golden brown.
- Only do a few slices at a time adding more oil each time as needed.
- A great accompaniment to the big breakfast fry up or enjoyed on their own.
