A New Zealand first, Giesen pioneering 0% alcohol Red wine and Riesling

Giesen has just added a 0% alcohol Merlot and Riesling to their 0% alcohol range. A New Zealand first for 0% alcohol red wine and 0% alcohol Riesling.

The no alcohol movement is gaining momentum globally with significant global growth forecasted. Giesen is positioning itself as the #1 premium alcohol-removed wine brand with the extension of their 0% alcohol range, backed by 40 years of expertise and experience.

This extension comes after the successful launch of the world’s first alcohol removed New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in 2020, followed by 0% alcohol Pinot Gris and Rosé.

International research predicts that global sales of no and low alcohol sales are set to be ?valued at more than $1.6 billion by 2024.

Giesen Group Chief Winemaker Duncan Shouler says this move to extend the range was based on a huge amount of consumer feedback.

“After the release of the alcohol- removed Pinot Gris and Rosé, our consumers were screaming out to us via our social channels for a 0% alcohol Red and a 0% alcohol version of Giesen Wines’ best-selling Riesling. It was really a ‘consumers asked, we listened’ moment.”

“We have had positive feedback from the Australian market on Giesen 0% Merlot after we launched early February with heavy interest from those in the wine industry around when it will land in New Zealand.”

Giesen is also thrilled to be bringing a 0% alcohol version of their best-selling Giesen Estate Riesling to their customers.

Giesen Estate Riesling is New Zealand’s #1 Riesling in grocery stores with one in every 3 bottles of Riesling sold through New Zealand supermarkets being Giesen Estate Riesling.

“Riesling was a natural next choice with the extension of the 0% alcohol range. It is rated as the no.19 top white wine in New Zealand grocery. We know our consumers will love a new low-calorie 0% alcohol twist on an old favourite.”

Giesen is taking both the New Zealand and international markets by storm with its 0% offerings after their 0% alcohol Sauvignon Blanc initially sold out across Australia and New Zealand after its launch.

In both the New Zealand grocery channel and retail channel, Giesen 0% alcohol Sauvignon Blanc is the #1 no-alcohol wine by value.

In Australia, Giesen 0% Sauvignon Blanc is the 1# performing no-alcohol white wine in alcohol retailer Dan Murphy’s. As well as #1 New Zealand no- alcohol white wine in the United States.

The low or no alcohol category has seen a huge drive from the ‘sober curious consumer’, who is estimated will contribute to a total volume of sales of no/low alcohol products increasing globally by 31% by 2024.

In 2021, Giesen invested over a million dollars into spinning cone technology to gently remove the alcohol from some of its most popular wines. The machine is now working 24/7 to keep up with demand.

Giesen felt it was important to own their own technology. It ensures they are continually improving our 0% wines with every blend, committed to their pursuit to make premium low calorie 0% alcohol wine.

The machine gently distils wine into three layers: aroma, alcohol and body. Leaving the alcohol aside, the distinctive aroma is combined with the body of the alcohol-removed wine to create 0% alcohol wine that doesn’t compromise the quality of the classic Giesen wines consumers know and love.

The Giesen 0% alcohol Merlot is dry in style but has bright varietal characters plum, cherry and blackberry, it’s an aromatic red wine that is easy to drink and a perfect match with food.

The Giesen 0% Riesling is light, lively and refreshing, with zingy lime, ripe mandarin and delicious sweetness balanced by crisp acidity paired best with fresh fruit salad, or citrus ceviche with avocado.

Giesen Group brings this extension of its Giesen 0% alcohol range to a total of 8 no and low alcohol products stocked nationwide.

At launch, Giesen 0% Riesling and 0% Merlot can be found in most New World and Pak n Save supermarkets and other leading retailers nationwide. RRP $17.99.

      Hi Terry,

This is the information publicly available on the Giesen website: https://giesen.co.nz/place/. If you’d like to further confirm which vineyard supplies the grapes for their zero percent riesling, it would be best to contact them directly.

      Thank you
