Afghan biscuits

Afghan Biscuits are a choice choc treat! Kids and blokes adore them and they’re sooo easy to make. No, the recipe’s origins aren’t from Afghanistan. Kiwis invented “Afghans” and named them due to the colour of the biscuit.

To make these winning Afghan Biscuits, you need:

  • 200 g butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 cup corn flakes, slightly crushed
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • walnuts (to decorate)

    How to make Afghan Biscuits:

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, sift together flour and cocoa and mix into butter mix, then fold in corn flakes and coconut.
  2. Put teaspoonful balls onto lightly greased or baking paper covered trays.
  3. Bakes at 180°C for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Makes about 30 biscuits.ICING
  5. Sift icing sugar and cocoa together, add enough water to get a spreading consistency, ice biscuits, decorate with walnuts.
