Easy homemade churros

A bowl of fried thin donuts on paper towel.
Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Roll them in cinnamon sugar or dip them in chocolate sauce. The world is your churro!

Ingredients
 
 

  • 1 cup water 250ml
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 145 g plain flour
  • 1 egg large
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil for deep frying

Cinnamon and sugar coating

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • chocolate sauce

Instructions
 

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large pot to medium temperature.
  • Churros batter: In a saucepan combine the water, butter, and sugar. Bring to the boil.
  • Add in the flour and reduce the heat to medium. Cook stirring consistently with a spatula until the mixture comes together to form a smooth dough.
  • Transfer the mixture to a bowl to cool. Allow the mixture to cool for 5 minutes. Using an electric beater beat in the egg and vanilla. Blend till the dough comes together.
  • Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  • Taking care of the hot oil, pipe the dough into the hot oil. Use a clean scissor to cut the churros.
  • Fry till golden brown approximately 2 minutes on either side. When the churros are done, transfer onto paper towels to absorb the excess oil.
  • Toss the churros in Sugar and cinnamon coating.
  • Best enjoyed straightaway dipped in chocolate sauce.
