Mulled Wine
The perfect drink for a cool, winter night with good food and friends. Mmmm, just sip some warm mulled wine for a perfect dinner party or apres ski.
Serves 10
For mulled wine, you will need:
2 bottles of red wine (we love Ara Wines)
An apple, sliced thinly
Cloves
2 oranges sliced, with cloves stuck in the skin
3 cinnamon sticks (we love Masterfoods quills)
2 star anise
2 cups of water
1 x 4cm piece of ginger
1 bay leaf (optional)
brown sugar to taste
Splash of brandy (optional)
Method:
Put red wine, orange clove pieces, cinnamon sticks, star anise, apple, ginger and bay leaf in a pan with the water.
Warm, but do not boil. Keep warm for 5-10 minutes to let the flavours infuse.
When warm add brown sugar to sweetness you require.
Add a little brandy if you desire for a little extra oomph.
Serve warm in cute mugs or cups.
Trudi’s tip: leave out the brandy, or even try rum.
