Ultimate Macaroni Cheese
We know our Fresh foodies love their comfort foods and this Macaroni Cheese recipe is an easy and delicious meal with lots of secret ingredients to make it extra loveable.
Ingredients
- 300 g Diamond macaroni
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp powdered mustard
- 3 cups milk
- ¼ cup onion or shallots finely diced
- 1 bay leaf
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 large egg
- 350 g grated tasty cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- black pepper
Macaroni Cheese Top
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp parmesan cheese grated
- Fresh herbs , parsley and oregano to garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.
- While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about 5 minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for 10 minutes and remove the bay leaf.
- Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.
- Melt the butter in a sauté pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.
Notes
This mac & cheese heats up well in a microwave or the oven, even after refrigeration.
