Halloween Treats
Never mind the real meaning of Halloween, it is a fun day for children of all ages. Dress up as Dracula, the devil, a goblin, ghost or witch and go knocking at neighbours’ doors for ‘Trick or Treat’! New Zealand’s long evening means we can have even more fun. Here are some ideas for your Halloween party.
Ingredients
Witches’ finger biscuits
- 80 g butter
- 60 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 50 g ground almonds
- 150 g plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- red jam plum, raspberry, strawberry etc.
- sliced almonds
Witches Hats
- chocolate covered biscuits
- chocolate kisses
- chocolate or icing pen
Instructions
Witches’ finger biscuits
- Cream butter and sugar in a bowl.
- Add egg and mix well. Add ground almonds.
- Mix flour and baking powder to form soft dough. Wrap in cling film and rest it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Pre heat oven to 180°C.
- Take about one teaspoon full sized dough on your palm. Roll it to make 1cm thick and 5 cm long finger shape. Place on baking tray lined with baking sheet. Repeat to make as many fingers as you like. You can cut out rest of the dough with cookie cutters if you get tired of making fingers.
- With a tip of a teaspoon, flatten the one end of each finger slightly. Dot with small amount of red jam on the flatten end. Place one slice of almond on top of the jam for the fingernail.
- Press a fork gently on each finger to create winkles impression.
- Bake in oven for 15-20 minutes until slightly golden.
Witches Hats
- Place a chocolate covered round biscuit (like a Toffee Pop) on a plate. Dot a tiny blob of jam/honey/ icing in the centre of biscuit.
- Place a Kiss chocolate on top of the sticky blob to attach, making it look like witches hat. Using a writing icing pen, draw bows on each hat.
