Curry Mince

2 bowls of curried mince with herb, spoon and fork, and part of another 2 bowls each filled with mince and rice.
Sometimes you hit the jackpot with a recipe. All culinary forces just come together for a mouth-watering hit every time you make it. Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of those recipes!

Ingredients
 
 

  • 500 g lean beef mince
  • 2 onions
  • 2 cloves crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp crushed ginger
  • ½ tin canned tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp mild curry powder
  • ¼ cup tomato relish/chutney/paste
  • 1 tsp fresh ground chili or powder
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups water
  • salt

Instructions
 

  • Place mince in a large saucepan. Cook over a medium heat, breaking it up with your spatula until browned.
  • Peel onions and chop finely. Add to meat along with tomatoes, garlic and ginger and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Mix in curry powder, relish, chili, 1 cup water and salt to taste.
  • Cook for 20 minutes.
  • Stir rest of water into mince mixture with peas.
  • Cook, stirring, until mixture boils and thickens a little
  • Serve over steamed rice or wrapped in flat bread and garnish with finely chopped coriander or mint.
  • Snapped freshly cooked poppadoms are a stunning match.

Notes

Fresh tip: A freshly made raita and tomato salsa will seriously elevate this dish.
